We shine on Chiyoda softly
thru our hand-roasted coffee
and butter toast.

"Mond" means "moon" in German

We carefully select coffee beans from around the world, roast them ourselves and hand-drip every cup.
Through our coffee and butter toast, we hope to keep softly lighting up the streets of Chiyoda, like moonlight.

At Mond, we only select specialty coffee: beans that are traceable from farm to processing to distribution, grown with respect for nature, traded under fair trade, and of high quality.

We roast in-house beans from many countries, each to suit its character, and always have 5–6 varieties on hand.

Specialty coffee beans
Freshly roasted, freshly ground, freshly brewed

Freshly roasted, freshly ground, freshly brewed

We grind freshly roasted beans
only after you order,

and brew each cup one at a time.

When the coffee blooms during the pour,
that's a sign the beans are fresh.

Butter toast

Butter Toast

Our signature butter toast

Bread from SURIPU, a popular bakery in Tsurumai, Nagoya, generously topped with butter from the long-established dairy Suzutoyo Nyugyo, then slowly toasted in the amazing BALMUDA toaster.

The butter soaks right in: crispy outside, chewy inside!

Butter toast with house-made red bean paste

Nagoya's local specialty, Ogura Toast, topped with our lightly sweet house-made red bean paste, made from Japanese azuki beans simmered with care for about 3 hours.

Enjoy the perfect match of butter and sweet bean paste!

About us

Softly lighting up the streets of Chiyoda

Mond started in 2014 as a small homeware shop in Shinsakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya.
In 2015 we moved to our current home in Chiyoda, Naka-ku, and ran as a homeware shop with a coffee stand.

We set out to be a kind of "water fountain" for the Chiyoda neighborhood, a place to stop and catch your breath.
Thanks to guests of all ages, from families with little ones to older regulars, we were able to celebrate our 7th anniversary.

Then in November 2021, we reopened as a shop dedicated to hand-roasted coffee and butter toast!
With more seats and a bigger menu, we'll keep working to make Mond a cozy place to be.

Before Mond, I ran a watch shop.
When I retired, I decided I wanted to take the time to really explore coffee, something I've always loved.

I want you to enjoy coffee at its very best, so I roast small batches every day.
Fresh coffee really does taste best, after all.

Somehow I became everyone's mama, haha.
I make the house-made red bean paste for our Ogura Butter Toast.

I've always loved antiques and vintage things, so I'd be happy if you took your time here, feeling a bit of history in Mond's cups.
I look forward to chatting with you!

Owner / Buyer

I fell in love with this space, originally a barbershop, while out on a walk. We renovated it ourselves and opened Mond.

I moved to the Netherlands in 2019 and now live in Georgia, in Eastern Europe.
I source homeware and tableware locally, and work with my parents on running the shop and planning events.

On good days and not-so-good days alike, I'd be happy if "maybe I'll stop by Mond" became a part of your life.
